It is estimated that China's crude steel output will reach 980 million tons in 2019. Wang Huaishi, secretary general of China Special Steel Enterprise Association, introduced the operation of special steel industry in 2019. It is estimated that the output of special steel (excluding stainless steel) will reach 140 million tons in 2019, up 7.15% year-on-year, accounting for 14% of the total steel output.

"At present, the potential of stainless steel stock capacity is at least 20%. We should not take the old road of new construction and expansion, but take the high-quality development route of intensification, refinement, precision and high efficiency." Liu Fuxing, Vice President of Stainless Steel Branch of China Special Steel Enterprise Association, said this when making the 2019 work report of China's stainless steel industry.

First, output and consumption continued to grow. In 2019, the national output of stainless steel crude steel is expected to exceed 30 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 12.36%; Apparent consumption of stainless steel is expected to be 24.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.15%. Under the unfavorable international economic environment, the output and consumption of stainless steel keep double-digit growth, reflecting the functionality and substitutability of stainless steel.

Second, there are new changes in the variety structure. In the variety structure of stainless steel, 300 series stainless steel accounts for 47.7%, up by 2.24% year-on-year; 40 series stainless steel accounted for 17.51%, down by 3.04% year-on-year; 00 series stainless steel accounted for 34.13%, up 0.78% year-on-year. Duplex stainless steel broke through 200,000 tons for the first time, and the output of super austenitic stainless steel and nickel-base alloy increased substantially and replaced imports.

Third, both imports and exports declined. It is estimated that China's stainless steel imports will be 1.15 million tons in 2019, a year-on-year decrease of 700,000 tons or 37.84%; Exports were 3.6 million tons, down 400,000 tons or 10% year-on-year.

Fourth, the research and development of scientific and technological innovation products is accelerated, and high-quality, refined and special stainless steel products are continuously introduced. For example, TISCO's ultra-thin precision belt (hand-torn steel) won the special prize of Metallurgical Science and Technology Award, high purity 316H was applied to the fourth generation nuclear power units in China, super austenite S31254 and super duplex stainless steel 2507 were first applied to ship desulfurization, etc.

Fifth, the physical quality of the products has been obviously improved. Stainless steel and other enterprises won awards in the national science and technology quality appraisal.

Sixth, industrial restructuring and integration began to accelerate. Signed a strategic cooperation agreement, and Shanghai Electric and Qingshan Group settled in enterprises to carry out the preliminary work of restructuring.

Seventh, the environmental protection level of enterprises in the whole industry has been greatly improved, and efforts have been made to meet the requirements of national blue sky and clear water.

Eight is the world's first stainless steel futures listed on September 25th. This indicates that China's stainless steel has its own official pricing mechanism and official tools to hedge risks.

Nine is the intensive introduction of the national standard of stainless steel, which will improve the production and application level of stainless steel. Since the beginning of this year, 18 national standards such as antibacterial stainless steel containing copper, welded stainless steel pipe for water supply and seamless stainless steel pipe for liquefied natural gas have been compiled, and 11 national standards such as stainless steel wire and corrosion-resistant alloy seamless pipe have been promulgated.

At the same time, Liu Fuxing pointed out eight major issues that the stainless steel industry should pay attention to in 2020, including raw materials, export, industry ecology, environmental protection, policy support for upgrading equipment level, support for new products and substitute imported products, support for enterprises to develop and promote stainless steel water supply pipes, and risk prevention and control.
